Volunteer with us

Volunteers have made a huge contribution to the work of the Essex Record Office over many years. Their time and expertise has enriched our digital catalogue, Essex Archives Online, and helped preserve thousands of historical records in our care. 

At the moment, there are three main volunteer projects: 

• Conserving plans by Frederic Chancellor
• Cataloguing building plans from Rayleigh, Benfleet and Canvey Island
• Summarising oral histories preserved in the Essex Sound and Video Archive (ESVA)

We are not currently accepting new volunteers. If you would like to register your interest in volunteering with us in future, please email ero.enquiry@essex.gov.uk. 

If you are 16-20 and would like to gain experience in working in an archive, register for one of our experience days on Tuesday 5 August and Friday 15 August. Sign up on Eventbrite.
